Client Computers cannot connect to Internet with ICS and VPN  on host Win 7 PC
Here is the system set up Vista laptop wirelss connected to a wireless access point Access point wired to LAN adaptor on Host PC running Windows 7 PRO Network runs just fine Host PC has a dial up connection to the Internet Host PC has a PCI satellite receiver installed as Local Area connection Host PC has Satellite connection manager which creates a VPN when activated once Internet connection is established via the dial up connection. I have enabled ICS on the dial up connection and the Laptop can connect to the Internet Once connected to the Internet I run the Satellite connection manager on the Host PC and I can use the satellite receiver to get broadband Internet on the Host PC --no problems there. The Laptop now cannot get any Internet connection. Previously when running XP all was OK. Now, it is many years since I set up the XP machines, so I may have forgotten some vital setting that enables the Laptop to get Internet access when running the VPN connection on the Host PC. I have tried putting the ICS share on the VPN connection rather than the dial-up one but it did not appear to work. Any ideas or am I doing something wrong !! Thanks Peter

In my experience, ICS on win7 will not work forever after you set it up and reboot. Use a Vista or XP machine to be the ICS host.

I know it works with XP as I have been using it for years but thought that UPGRADE to Win 7 would be good idea. It seems that from all the networking problems quoted on the Net that I have been "conned" by MS again. Why screw up something that worked well previously in other Windows OS ? Cannot use a router because the internet connection is via DIAL UP Modem (as per my description) Thanks

Yes, I live in a wonderful country called the UK where in the 21st century we cannot get broadband service hence the satellite system which now does not work because of a new improved 21st century OS !!! That's progress

Why screw something up? Because they can...or they didn't know that the new features/fixes in win7 broke ICS. Adding on Daniel Ho's advice: A router being the 'ICS host' is not a bad idea, except that you are using dial-up, which routers don't do.
